Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better known to the public as Queen Latifah is an American performer, actress and acrobat. in film, music and on television, Queen Latifah has won two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award and six additional Grammy nods and has been nominated for the Emmy Award. Queen Latifah was born in Newark, New Jersey. She is the daughter of Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of 10. Latifah grew up in the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Latifah refers to gentle and kind. Her mother gave it to her at the age of 8. Latifah was always tall, standing 5'10" She was a strong forward for her high school basketball team. The number she sang was"Home" from the show The Wiz in a high school performance. Latifah began her career as a beatboxer with The Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah joined in the Flavor Unit in its original model, consisting of a group of MCs and DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. The recorded was sent to Yo! MTV Raps who is known as Freddy. The track caught the attention of Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who signed Latifah and released her debut track Wrath of My Madness.
